The Flowering Dwarf Pomegranate Bonsai Tree is a Slow Grower But Looks Amazing

One of the best outdoor bonsai trees as far as surviving in a number of climate zones is the Flowering Dwarf Pomegranate bonsai tree. The punica granatum, as it is scientifically known, is a sub-tropical deciduous bonsai tree that features amazingly colored red-orange trumpet shaped flowers. Then, in the fall, the little tree grows small, round red-orange fruit. The rest of the year, the tree is adorned with small, dark green leaves that feature some hints of bronze coloring. The Flowering Dwarf Pomegranate bonsai takes some time to get growing—it’s a slow/moderate grower—but once it has had a few years, it starts to look really neat and different from other bonsai.

Unlike some bonsai trees, the Flowering Dwarf Pomegranate actually needs to be in full sunlight for most of the time. This goes against what many bonsai growers are used to since most bonsai need either indirect sunlight or do not need to be in sunlight at all. However, like most bonsai, the Flowering Dwarf Pomegranate does need protection from the winter. You’ll want to put it in a sheltered area where it won’t be rained or snowed on. This can be difficult since these sheltered areas are also often areas in the shade, thus preventing the tree from getting the sunlight it needs.
