November 13th, 2008

Some cakes can be a bit tricky to make, and cheesecake is probably near the top of the list. If you don’t get this egg-based, delectable dessert just right, the results can be pretty messy. And if you do get the ingredients and baking done well, getting it out of the pan will be next to impossible unless you use a springform pan. Some people make the mistake of using a lesser quality, mediocre springform pan that causes the cheesecake to stick to the sides or not to bake evenly. That’s why the Kaiser Springform Pan is such a smart buy. Read the rest of this entry »

Blue Fish Ceramic Bird Bath

October 31st, 2008

Up until lately my experiences with bird baths involved a lot of grey/ white concrete and a single shape. And still I’ve always loved them. It’s hard to resist the idea of playing host to big variety of birds looking for a place to drink, rest and wet their feathers. I’m not alone in feeling that a garden without a bird bath is missing out on something very integral to what a garden is supposed to be. And since one of the things a garden is supposed to be is lovely, I was delighted to discover that when I wasn’t looking, bird baths have evolved. A great example of this is the Ceramic Bird bath in Blue with Green Fish available from Zen Garden Bonsai. Read the rest of this entry »

Fun Loving Sterling Silver Monkey Earrings

October 11th, 2008

These sterling silver monkey earrings from The Magic Zoo hang from their tails with a big simian smile on their faces. They’re super cute, and I would recommend these little guys to any monkey lover. One of the things I find especially appealing is the amount of detail in the design. You can see everything so clearly- from the expressive eyes to the little curl in the tail- just like he’s got it wrapped around a branch in some jungle tree. I love the way they’re positioned- it really makes them stand out and you instantly can tell what they are, even from a distance. Read the rest of this entry »

Choosing the Right Water Filter

September 27th, 2008

With the vast amount of choices available from bottled, to regular tap, or filtered it can be hard to choose the right one.  Many assume that bottled water is the safest, but few know that bottled water may just be tap water in a fancy bottle with a pretty label.  There are some companies including well known sources that have simply used tap water and marketed as pure or spring to fool consumers.  With untreated tap water there is the chance that impurities have not been fully filtered out.

Water filters can remove many of the impurities such as chlorine, lead, and bacterial contaminants left in untreated tap water, providing a safe drinking source for families.  They are also much more economical than purchasing bottled water that can cost $2.00 a gallon versus a few cents.

There are several different types of water filters available for consumers to choose from.  Whole house filters, set up through the main water line, remove contaminants from all the water entering the house.  Under sink filters have multiple cartridges to remove different types of contaminants, but only work on the sink they are installed on.   Faucet mounted filters are very easy to install and simple mount to the faucet, they only filter water from the faucet they are attached to.
