I remember my grandmother always had her big stand mixer on her kitchen counter. It was black, and so sturdy and heavy I had trouble lifting as a kid. She loved that mixer and used it for everything – she was an excellent cook and I can still picture her cooking in her kitchen, using her mixer to whip up batches of dough for my favorite holiday cookies.  For years I got by at my own home using a hand mixer. I really wanted to buy a stand mixer but my kitchen space was pretty tight and so was my budget.
